How to Avoid Duplicate Content in Your Copywriting

If you have duplicate content on your website or for any of your copywriting, it is going to be trouble. Blocks of duplicate content that you have written yourself, or that has been copied and pasted from another source will end up damaging your site and your reputation.

Google’s algorithm doesn’t like duplicate content because it can’t determine which page is the best one to recommend to the user. The page that you want to get traffic on might not get as much attention as you would hope. If a site has plagiarized content, Google might punish it.

Your site might not always be penalized for duplicate content, but it’s always a good idea to create new content. It’s better for your site. We know that it’s sometimes hard to ensure that all content is unique simply because you have to cover your niche.

Still, you can and should make an effort to reduce duplicated content. Below are some tips on how to avoid the content.

Where Does Most Duplicate Content Occur?

Duplicate content often shows up in certain areas of websites. This includes service area pages. Businesses that service multiple communities will often use the same content for each of their pages across the different neighborhoods.

For example, a plumber that services four different communities might use essentially the same text for their emergency plumbing pages for each of those locations. Yet, this is going to create duplicate content if the only different thing is the location name.

In those cases, each of the service pages for each community needs to be unique. This takes extra time, but it will ensure you don’t have to worry about duplicate content. It will be better for your SEO, as well.

Always strive to make each page on your site as unique as possible regardless of the type of business you are running.

Another area where duplicate content often shows up is with products. If you have products you are selling on your site from larger manufacturers, you might be tempted to use the manufacturer’s product descriptions and content and use them on your page. However, that’s going to be duplicate content that could be considered plagiarism by Google, even when you have permission to use it.

Instead, you will be better off creating brand new content for all of the products you are selling.

Look at all of the content you are posting on your blogs, as well. Even though there is sure to be some overlap since you have a niche, you don’t want the same content. Make it all as different and unique as possible. Consider hiring Search SEO Chicago writers, who have been helping clients for over 10 years with their unique content.
